President's message:

Thanks to all who participated in last month's poker run.  I hope it was fun for all who participated.  When Pete and I delivered the cards to the airports on Friday, we weren't sure if the weather was going to cooperate.  But by Saturday morning it was beautiful and everything went well.

Next Meeting:

A fly-in breakfast to Soda Springs is on the agenda for July 16th at 9:00 a.m.  We will meet at the airport where I have a car stationed for the drive to the Enders Hotel and Museum.  The food is good and the environment fascinating.  While you wait for breakfast to be served, roam the halls and upstairs rooms to glimpse a bit of history from the 1800's.

Elevation of Soda Springs' Tigert Airport (U78) is 5840' with runways 16-34 as the main runways (3500').  Caution density altitude and highway/power lines on the north end.

See you there!

Austin

EAA CHAPTER 407 - June 18 meeting Minutes

Our June18th meeting followed a poker run with the final card being drawn at the Blackfoot FBO after a blazing dash up and down the valley by seven planes.  Pilots were:

Roger Johnston

Steve Hildreth

Austin Moses

Pete Stewart

Paul LaBeck - from St. Anthony

Hal Johansen

Dale Cresap

Also in attendance at Blackfoot were:

Harold Mothersill, Blake Maxfield, a friend of Dales.

Terry Berg and his sons Chris and Matthew

The winning hands were drawn by 1st place Steve Hildreth with 3 ten's who chose a 2005 copy of the FAR's/AIM, 2nd place Pete Stewart with two pair and 3rd place, Austin Moses with a pair of 10's.  Pete Chose Mirror Glaze and Austin a Sectional map.

As new business, the suggestion was made that possibly attendance could be improved by posting a schedule of meetings at each FBO bulletin board.  This will be discussed at the next meeting.

A number of comments were made about the success of the Young Eagles Fly-in on the 28th of May.  Dale was the coordinator for this event and was asked how he had managed to entice just the right number Young Eagles without getting an excessive number.  He said that basically he just posted the event on the company bulletin board at his work.

Because of the success in Idaho Falls, the suggestion was made to have a repeat performance

at another airport in July or August.  Dale will investigate.  Roger Johnston said that he would check on American Falls as a possible site.

The July meeting had tentatively been planned for Mackay or Soda Springs.  After some discussion the group agreed that we would meet in Soda Springs.

Mention was made that Harold Turvey, a former member and past Secretary/Treasurer, has contributed several hundred dollars to the ISU Aircraft Maintenance Scholarship Fund.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:00

Pete Stewart

Secretary

Editor’s Note:

I am the last to arrive in Blackfoot; my wheels touch at 10:59. Pilots are so prompt.

I open the envelopes containing my cards and am pleased to see the king and ace of clubs, but my royal flush does not hold up and I end up with only an ace high hand. Hal objects to a deck with 5 tens, but more than one deck was used. I introduce my guest, co-worker, and student pilot Blake Maxfield.
